Puffy, soggy, contaminated compacted putting greens with excessive organic matter. Speed ranging between 7.0-8.5. Hard, slow fairways.

2021-22

Smooth, true, firm putting greens with adequate ball holding capacity. Speed ranging between 8.5-10.5. Soft, medium fast fairways.

Site Background

Willingdon Golf Course was laid out in the early 19th century, 65 acres land having flat topography, black cotton soil, native trees. Course was upgraded in 2006, massive landfill was done to raise the levels, create undulations, severe contouring. Municipality treated waste water, Sand base Teeing Areas, Putting Greens, Soil base Fairways & Semi- roughs. Busiest course in the state of Maharastra.

Preventive practices to control the overall maintenance cost, optimum resources utilisation to achieve desired outcomes. Daily course presentation to provide desired playing conditions. Organic matter management to dilute and control the matter. Precision irrigation practices to promote deep and healthy root zone. Biodiversity enhancement by encouraging species and preserving habitats. Introducing and adding versatile machinery in the fleet. Soil amendments by incorporating sand layer to increase porosity, percolation and to prevent runoff. New nursery development.

RENOVATION

Issues

Ineffective drainage system, uneven teeing areas, worn out bunker face, eroded edges of waterbody, damaged paths, unwanted softscape.

Restoring features that blends into the existing natural settings without changing the shape, location. Sustainable design ideas and selection of materials to ensure practically, affordability and long term sustainability. Surveying work, rectification works in drainage system, reconstruction of bunker face, waterbody, construction of hardscape to reduce softscape areas, improvement works for paths.
